Part of the Observability team, operating the monitoring, logging, alerting and on-call platforms — Grafana Cloud, Prometheus, Fluent Bit and PagerDuty — for a containerised AWS estate running on ECS. Helped internal teams unify the metrics and logs of their applications, ran the GitLab CI/CD pipelines behind auto-releases, and worked with developers to improve visibility, debugging and incident response across the platform.

• Cost optimisation. Drove significant savings by consolidating observability on Grafana Cloud: metrics and logs moved off New Relic and Datadog, and on-call moved from PagerDuty to Grafana IRM after five years on it. Introduced governance practices and fine-grained permissions for Grafana stacks and AWS resources.
• Automation. Built dynamic pipelines around a single source of truth and Python tooling against several APIs, enabling automated deployments and removing engineering hours lost to manual work and human error.
• Infrastructure as Code. Authored and maintained reusable Terraform modules, and supported the developers building and releasing an internal Terraform provider, accelerating infrastructure standardisation.
• Collaboration. Led the initiative to build a shared code space for the observability teams, and partnered with the cloud teams to define least-privilege AWS roles for observability services.
• Operational excellence. Automated dependency management with Renovate to keep updates secure and timely, and helped teams adopt solid on-call practices.

Ran production systems for customers on AWS and Google Cloud — including Kubernetes on GKE and EKS — from architecture and migration through to day-to-day operation and incident response.

• Architecture and migration. Designed and built systems for mission-critical projects, from architecture and migration planning to continuous operation and improvement.
• Reliability. Responded to incidents, found the root cause, fixed the underlying problem and designed the improvement so it would not recur.
• Performance. Analysed and improved performance and scalability, and automated systems management with Ansible and Terraform.
• Customers. Worked directly with customers — many of them leading companies in their industry — to understand their needs and design the solution.

• Architecture. Designed the system architecture of new projects.
• Operations. Ran production with load balancing, auto scaling, monitoring and event-based alerting, and administered the development, staging and production environments end to end.
• Automation. Automated deployments and operations with CloudFormation, OpsWorks and custom tooling on AWS.
